3BR Distillery wanted to take on the challenge of becoming carbon neutral this year with the help of Climate Hound, a national organization designed to support the current state analysis of your business, proposals to move in the right direction, and access to contribute to carbon sinks to balance your usage. Investing in this change is important to us because we want to take responsibility for how we produce and do our part to help preserve natural resources for future generations.
Climate Hound takes in account all our business starting with what we produce and we are psyched to provide our awesome clientele with eco-friendly options! For example, one of our most popular spirits, MENDEL vodka, is made 100% from peas. Peas happen to be great for the environment due to their ability to capture and put nitrogen back into the soil - reducing the need for nitrogen fertilizers to be used for them or the next cycle of farming in that same space.
Team 3BR regularly prioritizes using locally grown agriculture to greatly reduce transportation emissions typically found with transporting supplies. In the past, we've sourced peaches, apples, basil, grapes, maple syrup, honey, and many more raw materials from local producers from New Jersey for our Elevator series, specialty batch “one-offs” uniquely released periodically each year.
Ever since the installation of our distillery's equipment, we have been conscious of our energy and resource usage. Our distilling process, for example, has a unique design that includes a large water reservoir which allows us to recirculate the water needed in our condensing coils effectively reducing our water consumption by 500,000 gallons a year!
The Viking System, a specialty piece of equipment that creates caustic and sanitizer strictly from water and salt, reduces runoff of harmful cleaning chemicals, eliminates the need for plastic containers to hold the chemicals, and provides a food-safe alternative. This innovative system harnesses electrolysis to transform simple ingredients into powerful cleaning agents, ensuring safety and sustainability. By utilizing the Viking System, our small businesses can significantly lower our environmental impact and improve operational efficiency.
